Movember

It's November, and that means it's Movember. What is Movember, you ask?

Movember is a global charity organization that has a vision to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of millions of moustaches on men's faces around the world. Through the power of the Mo, vital funds and awareness are raised to combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges.

Your Danville German Society Co-President, Karl Shellenberger, has committed his face to the cause and will be growing a moustache for the entire month of November to raise funds and awareness for men's health.

If you would like to support the cause, you can donate to Karl's moustache by:

Daylight Savings

We have received a lot of questions about daylight savings time, and we wanted to clear up some confusion.

Daylight savings time ended this past weekend because Franz Klingermann hit the snooze button on his alarm clock. That's all you need to know.

Wagner Farm Visitor / Elk Toss Date

The Wagner Farm had a special ursine visitor earlier this week. Sources indicate that the bear was trying to learn the date of the Elk Toss, or maybe just wanted to hang out with the chickens.

In case you were curious like the bear, February 15 will be the date of the 75th Annual Elk Toss, Charity Auction, and Winter Festival. Mark your calendars.

With the federal government shutdown over, the Danville German Society blog is back open for business. We will soon be posting information about the 75th Annual Elk Toss, Charity Auction, and Winter Festival. Can you believe it has been 75 years?

Bugling for 100 Years

2013 is the 100th Anniversary of the reintroduction of elk in Pennsylvania. Our esteemed president, Van Wagner, is performing musical programs throughout Pennsylvania to celebrate the milestone. More information about the anniversary events can be found here.

Danville Jermaine Society

Based on recent polling, a vast majority of Danville German Society members have said that the organization needs to make some big changes. The polling data indicates that we need to attract new members, so we have decided that we will rename ourselves as the Danville Jermaine Society, and we will celebrate the music of Jermaine Jackson at the 75th Annual Elk Toss, Charity Auction, and Winter Festival coming in Winter 2014. Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

2013 Fundraising Results

Through the 2013 Elk Toss, Charity Auction, and Winter Festival, the Danville German Society was able to help local organizations with over $2,500 in financial donations.

The Charity Auction and event entry fees raised $2,400, and we have donated that money to the following organizations. 

$800 - Gatehouse Shelter, Danville
$500 - Easter Seals of Central Pennsylvania, State College
$500 - Children Deserve a Chance Foundation, Lancaster
$500 - Heart to Hand Ministries, Danville
$100 - HOPE Fund of Penns Valley, Centre Hall

The Danville Area Diaper Bank collected almost 800 diapers and raised $139.

We collected approximately 2 full shopping carts worth of non-perishable foods for the Danville-Riverside Food Bank. 

We also collected a pickup truck full of firewood for the Wagners' neighbor.
