2018 Elk Toss Results

Here are the results of the Danville German Society's 75th Annual Elk Toss, Charity Auction, and Winter Festival held on February 17, 2018. Let us know in the comments if there are any errors with the names or hometowns.

We raised a total of $2,500 and the money will be split between the following organizations:

If you received the evite for the Elk Toss, the Wagner Farm is not shown in the correct location on the map provided with the evite. In the past year, Montour County addresses have changed, but online mapping services have not caught up. To get to the Wagner Farm, go up the gravel driveway located near here.

In Danville, the snow is not supposed to start until later in the afternoon on Saturday, and it should be finished by about 1am on Sunday morning. So, there should not be too many issues with traveling to/from the event.

It's Valentine's Day and there are only three days until the Elk Toss. We wanted to give an update on potential new events being considered for future Elk Tosses:

4 Days Until Elk Toss

The Elk Toss is only four days away, and here are a few important reminders:

1. Weather forecast for Danville
2. If you plan on staying in Danville after the Elk Toss, we recommend the Pine Barn Inn. It is within walking distance of downtown Danville.
3. Speaking of downtown Danville, post Elk Toss entertainment will be held at the Old Forge Brewing Company starting at 8pm. More details can be found on the Old Forge facebook page.
4. Bring items to donate to the auction.
5. Bring pot-luck food to share and beverages for yourself.
6. Wear Lederhosen.

Beverage Policy for 2018

Danville German Society officers have been unsuccessful (so far) in obtaining donations from local breweries for this year's Elk Toss. We request that you BYOB for this year, and we will also be instituting a carry in/carry out policy for recycling. Please take all of your empty cans and bottles with you when you leave the Wagner Farm. We apologize for the inconvenience.

5 Days Until Elk Toss

The Elk Toss is this Saturday.

As of this morning, the weather forecast is looking pretty good. It should be cold with no precipitation. Perfect Elk Tossing weather. More details on the weather forecast will come later this week.

A reminder that the Elk Toss is more than just a fun event in February. It is a fundraiser for some great organizations. This year, we are raising money for the following groups:

The Gate House, Danville
Community Cafe at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church, State College
Hayden's House of Healing

To help with the fundraising, please bring items to donate to the auction and also money to pay for auction items and event entry fees.

We wanted to remind you that the Elk Toss is on February 17, which also happens to be the same day as National Cabbage Day. Sauerkraut is made of cabbage. Coincidence?

Happy Groundhog Day

Weather Forecast

We have been getting thousands of requests for the weather forecast for the Elk Toss, and we have not been able to respond, but that soon will change. We are waiting for information from the groundhogs tomorrow, February 2, Groundhog Day. With a prediction of 6 more weeks or winter, we surely will have a cold and snowy Elk Toss. An early spring could mean sun and warmth.

Check out coverage of Punxsutawney Phil's forecast for yourself on February 2 starting at about 6:00 am on the Pennsylvania Cable Network, or live online from VisitPA.com. The actual annoucement of the forecast usually doesn't happen until around sunrise (about 7:25 am).
