Elk Toss Reminders

A few reminders for Elk Toss attendees:

1. Bring items to donate to the auction.
2. Bring donations of food to for the food bank, diapers for the diaper bank, and/or firewood for the firewood drive.
3. Bring cash or checks for the auction and event entry fees.
4. Bring a Drinking Vessel.
5. Wear Lederhosen or a Dirndl.
6. Wear warm clothes and boots since we will be outside much of the day, and it is forecast to be cold.
7. Bring Pot-Luck Food to share at the Wagner Farm.
8. Please do not bring your dog to the Elk Toss.
9. Organize a carpool. Parking is somewhat limited at the Wagner Farm.
10. If you haven't done so already, reserve a room if you want to spend the night in Danville.
11. Prepare to have fun while supporting some great charities.

Schedule Update - Urgent

The Jerseytown Tavern will not be opening at 10:00 am this Saturday. They will be opening at 11:00 am, which does not allow for enough time to get to the Wagner Farm for the 11:30 am Opening Ceremonies.

Due to these changes, the Jerseytown Burger Eat-Off has been cancelled and you should go directly to the Wagner Farm at 11:30 am. Sorry for the last minute change.

If you are planning to be in Danville on Saturday morning, the ScrappleFest at Pappas Restaurant and Salvation Army Shopping Trip will still be occurring.

Weather Forecast

The Weather World meteorologist, Fred Gadomski, once admitted to one of the DGS officers at a tour of the PSU Weather Center that weather forecasts are basically useless beyond more than a few days. So, the Elk Toss is now within the range of 10 day Weather Channel forecast and the 25 day AccuWeather forecast. Here are their forecasts as of today:

Wiffleball Homerun Derby?

Another dispatch from the Wagner Farm:

"Announcing the 1st ever Danville German Society wiffleball homerun derby. Batter gets 3 outs (fouls do not count). Anything not a homerun is an out (except fouls). There are no strike outs. Most homeruns wins. Ties go on for another round. Batter may choose any pitcher they wish. Winner gets $3,789 or comparable prize chosen by DGS officers. Fans may throw snow balls at batters and hurl insults as well. There will be no tolerance for urinating on first base. Cars parked on the field will be subject to $3,789 fine or impoundment."

Sap Collection Buckets

News from the Wagner Farm:

"There seems to have been some confusion from guests attending the elk toss last year. These are sap collecting buckets for maple trees NOT urinals or defecators.

Restrooms can be found in the form of the Franz Klingerman outhouse. I'm not sure how many people got confused last year, but I can attest that we have had some of the most unusual pancakes this season ever."

What to bring to the Elk Toss

If this is your first Elk Toss, or even if you you have attended in the past, we wanted to provide a list of things to bring to the Elk Toss or to do before you show up in Danville.

1. Bring items to auction and cash or checks to buy things in the auction. For auction donations, please bring items that you thing someone would actually want to purchase.
2. Bring Non-Perishable Food Items to donate to the Danville-Riverside Food Bank, or diapers to donate to the Danville Area Diaper Bank, or firewood to donate to the Wagners' neighbor.
3. Bring a Drinking Vessel such as a mug or stein to cut down on plastic waste.
4. Wear traditional German clothing (Lederhosen or a Dirndl), and/or wear warm clothes and boots since we will be outside much of the day.
5. Bring Pot-Luck Food to share at the Wagner Farm.
6. Please do not bring your dog to the Elk Toss. The Wagners have chickens, rabbits, and a peacock, and they have had too many conflicts between dogs and their animals.  
7. Organize a carpool. Parking is somewhat limited at the Wagner Farm.
8. If you haven't done so already, reserve a room if you want to spend the night in Danville.
9. Prepare to have fun while supporting some great charities. See charity list
