#2  everything changed overnight.  The driveway is almost unrecognizable.  I’ve seen some things in my time but this takes the cake.  Apparently the contractor we hired to build the driveway tried to save a penny and used Chinese drywall. That’s all I can say at this point. I hope this doesn’t deter you from coming to the Elk toss in a few hours. 75th year!  Cheap drywall or not!"

Final Elk Toss Reminders

Here is the first set of final reminders for the Elk Toss. We'll be posting more information tomorrow about the weather and driveway conditions, but this post should include almost everything you will need to know about attending the Elk Toss.

We will attempt to stick to the schedule as closely as possible. Feel free to meet up with us at any of the locations. See the google map or the printable schedule/map or the farm map for more information.

Schedule Summary:
8:00 am - Pappas Restaurant
10:00 am - Jerseytown Tavern
11:30 am - Wagner Farm
7:00 pm - Tour of Danville (begins at the bar at the Pine Barn Inn)
9:00 pm - Entertainment at Pub II

Be Prepared:

1. Bring items to auction and cash or checks to buy things in the auction. For auction donations, please bring items that you thing someone would actually want to purchase.
2. Bring Non-Perishable Food Items to donate to the Food Bank.
3. Bring a Drinking Vessel such as a mug or stein to cut down on plastic waste.
4. Wear traditional German clothing (Lederhosen or a Dirndl), and/or wear warm clothes and boots since we will be outside much of the day.
5. Bring Pot-Luck Food to share at the Wagner Farm.
6. Please do not bring your dog to the Elk Toss. The Wagners have chickens, rabbits, and a peacock, and they have had too many conflicts between dogs and their animals.  
7. Organize a carpool. Parking is somewhat limited at the Wagner Farm.
8. If you haven't done so already, reserve a room if you want to spend the night in Danville.
9. Prepare to have fun while supporting some great charities. See charity list.
10. Call our new toll-free Elk Toss hotline (888-321-6675) with any last minute questions.

10 Days Until the Elk Toss - Reminders

With only 10 days until the Elk Toss, here is a list of reminders to help you with your preparation:

1. Bring items to donate to the auction and cash/checks to buy things in the auction.
2. Bring Non-Perishable Food Items to donate to the Food Bank.
3. Bring a Drinking Vessel to cut down on the need for disposable cups.
4. Dess appropriately for the weather, or wear Lederhosen or a Dirndl.
5. Bring Pot-Luck Food to share at the Wagner Farm.
6. Please do not bring your dog to the Elk Toss. The Wagners have chickens, rabbits, and a peacock, and they prefer that their animals remain alive.
7. Organize a carpool.
8. Reserve a room at the one of the local hotels if you want to spend the night.
9. Check out the blog for updates next week.
10. Prepare to have fun while supporting some great organizations.

One Month Until the Elk Toss

There is only one month to go before the 75th Annual Elk Toss, Charity Auction, and Winter Festival, and here's a post from 2010 that we recycled and reworded last year. We figured we would use it once again in 2012. It contains helpful hints and reminders for Elk Toss virgins and others who may have forgotten about the details of the Elk Toss...

For many people, this will be their first time attending the Elk Toss. To make your experience as enjoyable as possible, we have compiled the following tips, reminders, and suggestions on what to bring with you:

1. The event benefits several charities, and your generosity is greatly appreciated. Please bring cash and/or checks to pay for events and the auction.  
2. The charity auction is only as good as the items that you donate to the auction. We appreciate your donations but also like donations solicited from restaurants, artists, businesses, family, etc.
3. We will once again be collecting non-perishable food items to donate to the Danville-Riverside Food Bank. Please bring canned goods and other non-perishable items to donate. 
4. Wear Lederhosen or a Dirndl.
5. Bring pot luck food to share at the Wagner Farm. Also, bring your own drinking vessel to cut down on the number of cups required.
6. Plan to carpool as much as possible. We will travel from Danville to Jerseytown to the Wagner Farm and then back to Danville. The only place with a decent amount of parking is at the Pine Barn Inn in Danville.  
7. Speaking of the Pine Barn Inn, we recommend reserving a room there if you plan to stay the night in Danville. It is the only hotel within walking distance of downtown Danville.
8. Prepare for the competitions. Understand the rules. Grow a beard
