You may have noticed Sean McVeigh with his video camera at the Elk Toss this year. He took a lot of footage and compiled it into a 50 minute documentary about our event. Check it out...

2012 Elk Toss Thanks

The 75th Annual Elk Toss, Charity Auction, and Winter Festival would not have been a success without the help and generosity of so many people. Hopefully this list is complete - please email us if we forgot someone.

The Danville News published an article about the Elk Toss today.

An article about the Elk Toss was published in the Daily Item's Sunday Item. It does not appear that the article was posted on their website, but they did post a photo album that includes 33 photos of our event, including these...

We plan to scan the article from the newspaper and post it to the blog at some point soon.

We also anticipate that the Danville News will publish an article tomorrow.

2012 Charity Results

We will be making donations to the following organizations:

Gatehouse Shelter in Danville - $1000

AGAPE (Bloomsburg) - $400

Centre County Women's Resource Center - $500

Easter Seals of Central Pennsylvania - $500

Church World Service, Lancaster - $500

We also collected a large volume of donations for the Danville-Riverside Food Bank. The Daily Item estimated that we had about 5 shopping carts worth of food.

2012 Event Results

We raised a total of $2900 at the 75th Annual Elk Toss, Charity Auction, and Winter Festival. The proceeds will be split up and donated to five charities. Additional information will be provided soon.

Final Reminders and Updated Driveway Conditions

Final Reminders from President Van...

"#1 bring mugs

#2  everything changed overnight.  The driveway is almost unrecognizable.  I’ve seen some things in my time but this takes the cake.  Apparently the contractor we hired to build the driveway tried to save a penny and used Chinese drywall. That’s all I can say at this point. I hope this doesn’t deter you from coming to the Elk toss in a few hours. 75th year!  Cheap drywall or not!"

Weather Forecast and Driveway Conditions

Looks like it will be a perfect day for Elk Tossing - cold with a strong wind blowing right in your face for the Elk Toss, lows around freezing, highs about 40, chance of flurries or snow showers. Check out the Danville weather forecasts from the National Weather Service, Weather Channel, or Accuweather for more information.

For the first time in many years, the driveway should be completely free of snow and ice, so we do not expect any problems getting to the farm.

Also, we wanted to remind everyone that the Wagners are graciously hosting the Elk Toss again this year, and we want to keep them happy so we can have the event there next year. A few reminders for people coming to the Wagner Farm...

1. As mentioned previously, No Dogs Allowed. The Wagners raise rabbits, chickens, and a peacock named Kevin, and they have already had several animals killed by dogs. The Wagners also do not want to clean up frozen dog feces from the yard after everyone leaves.
2. No Smoking inside the barn. Also, please do not toss cigarette butts in the yard, as the chickens will eat them, get sick, and die. Please throw your butts in a designated butt can.
3. Drive and park carefully. The grass areas could get soft and possibly muddy later in the day, so drive accordingly. Parking is limited, so carpooling is recommended. Also, watch out for children and the previously mentioned animals.
4. Also, please help clean up trash before you leave the Wagner Farm.

Final Elk Toss Reminders

Here is the first set of final reminders for the Elk Toss. We'll be posting more information tomorrow about the weather and driveway conditions, but this post should include almost everything you will need to know about attending the Elk Toss.

We will attempt to stick to the schedule as closely as possible. Feel free to meet up with us at any of the locations. See the google map or the printable schedule/map or the farm map for more information.

Schedule Summary:
8:00 am - Pappas Restaurant
10:00 am - Jerseytown Tavern
11:30 am - Wagner Farm
7:00 pm - Tour of Danville (begins at the bar at the Pine Barn Inn)
9:00 pm - Entertainment at Pub II

Be Prepared:

1. Bring items to auction and cash or checks to buy things in the auction. For auction donations, please bring items that you thing someone would actually want to purchase.
2. Bring Non-Perishable Food Items to donate to the Food Bank.
3. Bring a Drinking Vessel such as a mug or stein to cut down on plastic waste.
4. Wear traditional German clothing (Lederhosen or a Dirndl), and/or wear warm clothes and boots since we will be outside much of the day.
5. Bring Pot-Luck Food to share at the Wagner Farm.
6. Please do not bring your dog to the Elk Toss. The Wagners have chickens, rabbits, and a peacock, and they have had too many conflicts between dogs and their animals.  
7. Organize a carpool. Parking is somewhat limited at the Wagner Farm.
8. If you haven't done so already, reserve a room if you want to spend the night in Danville.
9. Prepare to have fun while supporting some great charities. See charity list.
